I Am... Ranger Cookie Recipe

Mike and I love going on long rambling walks that go nowhere in particular. More often than not, we'll end up in a grocery or kitchen goods store. The other week we stopped into Williams Sonoma where they were sampling their ranger cookie mix. I've never had ranger cookies before but how could I say no to oats, chocolate, raisins and coconut?

I Am... Paella Recipe

I haven't had paella in Spain, but if I ever hit up Valencia I know paella will be on my must eat list. Paella has bits of everything I love: rice, seafood, and most importantly, crispy burnt parts. Not everyone is into that toasted rice flavour, but I think the socarrat is the best part.

I Am... Takoyaki Recipe

A couple of years ago a good friend of mine gave me an electric takoyaki maker for my birthday. Takoyaki literally translated means octopus fried, but takoyaki isn't just fried octopus - it's a tiny, piping hot ball of batter filled with green onions, ginger, crispy tempura bits and octopus. It's crisp, it's gooey, it's delicious.

I Am... Raspberry Lemon Cake Recipe

Do you have any friend who don't like sweets? It seems to me that all the people I know don't like chocolate or sweets. What's a girl obsessed with sugar supposed to do?! Its downright difficult pawning off my baked goods. That's why I get so excited when friends' birthdays roll around. I pretty much know they're going to indulge in at least one piece of a homemade birthday cake.

I Am... Chinese Steamed Fish Recipe

Do you ever have random cravings for food? This happens to me all the time and while I'd like to give in to my stomach's every whim, I rarely do–usually because my food fantasies revolve around elaborate feasts that would be entirely too time consuming to make before passing out from hunger. Thankfully my elaborate feast fantasies don't happen all the time. The other day I had a very sensible, down-to-earth desire for a simple steamed fish.

I Am... Raspberry Pistachio Pavlova Recipe

Is there anything better than summertime and desserts? The sun has finally been shining down on Vancouver and the gorgeous weather is perfect for picnics and barbecues. In my books, no picnic or barbecue is complete without dessert – picnics and barbecues without dessert are like summer days without sun.

I Am... Spot Prawns with Lime and Cilantro Recipe

Spot prawns are Mike's absolute favourite seafood so now that it's spot prawn season we're going to be eating prawns like crazy. We love grilled prawns, but no patio means no grilling so I usually just pan-fry the prawns before tossing them in whichever dressing is tickling our fancy.

I Am... Crème Brûlée Doughnut Recipe

Have you ever had the creme brûlée doughnuts from Doughnut Plant in NYC? They are hands-down, my favourite doughnut in the world. Imagine biting into a super-soft, fluffy doughnut with a crisp caramelized sugar crust. If the brûléed top isn't enough for you, it's filled with an incredibly silky vanilla custard. Soft, creamy and crunchy, it's everything you never knew you wanted in a doughnut.

I Am... Brown Butter Brownies Recipe

I have a thing for those Two Bite Brownies they sell at Costco. It's embarrassing, but I get unreasonably excited when I see the nice Costco staff sampling them. They're just so delicious. So soft, so fudge-y, so good. And they're perfectly portioned. Not that I ever could just eat one brownie, but still, it feels good knowing that if I wanted to, I could just have one and stop there – not that that's ever happened!

I Am... Vietnamese Spring Roll Recipe

I love hand held foods. What could be better than holding something in your hand and eating it? It's the ultimate in minimalism. No utensils, no cutting - just grab and eat. I have a long list of favourite handhelds, but I'd have to say that my absolute favourite is Vietnamese spring rolls. Spring rolls are the one thing I can never refuse, no matter how full I am.
